10 Apr Embrace The Opposite!
This season’s makeup trends are all about coming to terms with opposing forces, so it’s okay to approach these trends with some trepidation. It’s that hesitation that will make your Spring/Summer look all the more on point!
The general rule this season is moderation, and we’re planning two Makeup Events in May to guide you in these trends. If you’re making a bold statement, pick just one color and one focal point, and then play up the rest of your features with a neutral pallet. More is definitely allowed, or should we say more is just enough when experimenting with the trends we’ve featured below. Do try them, but make sure it’s one new makeup trend at a time!
Try a wash of iridescent or matte white across your lids this Spring. We love the clean, fresh look of white eyeliner and shimmering white shadow. Inspired by surfers’ zinc, it definitely creates a summertime vibe that is both modern and surprisingly bold. We also love NARS Shimmer Eyeshadow in Tibet for executing the perfect bold shimmer. Highlight the look by lining the inner and outer lower lids with NARS Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner in Santa Monica.
Spring and Summer makeup is almost always about your complexion; this season is certainly no exception. Spring runways showed model after model with bare, dewy skin with just a pop of color on the eyes and lips, too, as a highlight. If you and your bronzer are not already best buddies, now is the time to renew that friendship. We recommend Mineral Bronzing Powder from BECCA because it adds a natural, sun-kissed glow that illuminates with flecks of light-reflecting particles. To add contour and highlight your cheekbones, apply NARS Illuminator in Copacabana.
This year, Pantone has picked Radiant Orchid as its color of the year. So it’s no surprise that we see various shades of purple as an emerging makeup trend for Summer. Soft purple lids are a great compliment to almost any complexion and provide just the right pop of color for Summer complexions. We like the Long Lasting Shadows from Rouge Bunny Rouge. Both Lilac Reef Curassow (pale lilac with an iridescent effect) and Delicate Hummingbird (cool, dusky sugar-frosted plum) are great choices.
While we adore the Cat Eye, we were happy to see a variation on this trend. This season, liner has gone decidedly angular, making our favorite retro obsession instantly modern. Try shapes and straight lines that overlap to achieve a look that will be all yours. We like Rouge Bunny Rouge’s Lacquer Eyeliner in Raven Glaze for achieving this look with minimal fuss, as its smooth formula and precise applicator allow for easy application.
INTERLOCKS has two makeup events scheduled in early May. On May 1st, we welcome back Jo Levy, Rouge Bunny Rouge’s Director of Artistry. And on May 2nd, we’re hosting the Makeup Artist team from NARS. Both events will feature opportunities for hands-on applications and techniques offered by our own Makeup Artists and the featured Rouge Bunny Rouge & NARS cosmetics products. Check out our Facebook page for the event listings and our website for more information. In the meantime, you can always schedule a Makeup Lesson appointment with one of our talented Makeup Artists. Try some of these Spring & Summer trends or just freshen your look for the new season.
