In honor of moms

What a crazy time to be a mom! Whether you’re trying to wrangle wild toddlers, navigate the whole homeschooling thing, or are simply missing your grown children or your own mom — it’s tough. So we just want to take a little time to honor the moms in our lives.

We want to remind all the mamas that it is an impossible job to balance parenthood, homeschooling, #WFH, and the many many other roles that we take on as Mom. At the end of all of this, what kids will truly remember and reflect on is the love, connection, support and time they spent together with you.

That said, it’s so, so important to take a little time for yourself and practice self care. You can’t pour from an empty cup and frankly, you deserve a little make that A LOT of pampering and relaxation.

We’ve collected some quarantine stories from the moms on our team to show you that you’re not alone, and we’re all just getting by the best we can! They also have some great ideas for gifts they would love, so feel free to forward along to anyone who could take a hint for what to give you this Mother’s Day 😉

I came home from the grocery store and asked Carson to fill up the downstairs toilet paper holder. I burst out laughing when I walked in to the bathroom an hour later! I guess he did what I asked 😂

I have 4 children ranging from ages 5–13. Trying to keep up with their schoolwork has been so hard, along with keeping up with the house and cooking... having some fun has been challenging to say the least. I’m pulled in a thousand directions daily.

One morning after breakfast (my teenagers still asleep) I literally took out a can of shaving cream and wrote a letter in front of Hailey and Finn. As you can see from the picture they were in shock. Pretty much thinking, “mom has lost her mind!” As you can see they had an absolute BLAST. The fun migrated from the counter to the table for some good clean fun! I figured why not... this kept them occupied for over an hour and I was able to clean the kitchen and organize a few things while they played. I’d say mom for the win. Sometimes little things make us smile ❤️

I have not had one moment where I felt like I was winning the homeschool mom award. Some days I call an emergency dismissal and other days we have fun field trips. There is no in between. 😂

I have learned that I do have enough willpower to not mutilate the hard work INTERLOCKS stylists have done on my hair and brows, but I have no control over doing ridiculous home projects that now seem Iike they will never end.

One thing I make sure I do every morning (and maybe that one night a week when I don’t fall asleep on the couch) is my face routine! If it wasn’t for Environ C-Quence 1, Skinbetter Science Alto Defense Serum, and Caudalie S.O.S. Intense Moisturizing Cream, I wouldn’t be able to start my day.

Homeschooling is no joke! And I only have to pre-K kids!! Shoutout to all of the mommas who are balancing elementary, middle, and high school curriculums virtually.

One of my favorite things we have done through our quarantine (#momwin) is our garden. We built a couple beds together, and have started a HUGE grow station in our dining room full of plants... our neighbors must be growing suspicious by the bright UV lights beaming from our front window by now 😂

On the flip side, one of my absolute #momfail moments was/is introducing the kids to the shower. No exaggeration, they will spend an HOUR+ in their bathing suits playing in the shower with toys. Our quarantine water bill is going to be off the charts!! 🤫

Gift recommendation: my favorite product of the moment is SHEALD Recovery Balm from iS Clinical. It's the only thing that saves my chapped hands from so many washes.

I have a 3 year old son (who just had his birthday!). I’m a single mom with no breaks... so far things have been HARD. More tears than anything. I’m sure there are moms out there who can relate!

My son Henry (age 5) has a Zoom with one of his specials teachers each week and they trade jokes.
Teacher: What do you call a witch at the beach?
Henry: A bitch?
Teacher (weakly, trailing off): a sandwich...

🤦‍♀️She was a little traumatized. I’m sure my parenting trophy will arrive any day now.

First photo: I followed Cheri's cutting tutorial #poorkid #neveragain 😂 Note to self... watch it 'til the end.

Second photo: I asked my son “what’s that? His reply: “the coronavirus, mom” 😂 Funny how kids observe more than we think!

I have two young children and I'm been trying to get them outside every day. They can get their energy out and it makes me happy to see them happy and being amazed by nature. It also helps me to relax and take my mind off things. Don't forget the sunscreen and a hat to protect against UV rays!

Lately I've been trying to take the time to take care of myself by sticking with my full skincare routine. Doing my full regimen morning and night makes me feel better even if I'm not blowing my hair out or putting on makeup every day.

My favorite products (and gift recommendations): I love the Environ Pre-Cleansing Oil, Clay Masque, and Revival Masque (a facelift in a jar!). You can use it as a quick 5-minute exfoliating treatment or put a thin layer on overnight after your regular nighttime products and wake up with glowing skin.

I've been enjoying the outside with my son TJ after he finished his freshman year at Emerson 🎉🥳🙌🏻

And trying to do Zoom yoga with Miss Lola 😻

One of my finest home school moments would maybe be the day I allowed my two dinosaur-OBSESSED boys to paint their faces like their favorite dinosaurs using one of my eye shadow palettes. Instead of math work, we decided to transform into dinosaurs to really get into character. As I looked at my new green eyeshadow look, I couldn’t help but feel both grateful for these silly days together and sad for the days of actually getting myself together as an adult. The whole thing prompted me to do my makeup a little bit like the good old days to remind myself I am actually a beauty industry worker with a passion for making clients feel beautiful inside and out!

My Mother’s Day recommendation would be to splurge on an eye shadow palette, or any makeup product that you are low on to gear up for your big debut back into the world, or even just to have a fancy day at home. For some reason, a little lip gloss around the house has been a small pick me up!

Some of my favorite moments from quarantine have been witnessing my boys become each other's best friend. They have shared kind words, and not so kind words, ideas, hugs, they have learned together and grown closer even through the brawls over toys or whose turn it is. And although it is difficult to be a parent, chef, teacher, disciplinary, best friend and play mate all at once, I’m proud of them, (and myself 😉)
