07 Jan Lipstick & Lashes
As the year changes over, many of us start thinking about changing up our look. Two things that can make an immediate impact are highlighting your lips and emphasizing your lashes. Both of these tend to be areas where women fall into a routine. Most of us have a shade or two of lipstick that we’ve used, well, forever… It’s also easy to just pick up the same mascara and liner, day after day. Interlocks Makeup Artist Robin Leibowitz explains, “It’s so easy to make a big impact with a small change like a new lipstick. The new year is a perfect time for trying a new color.” She adds, “Try to step out of your comfort zone a little. A new shade of lipstick or a set of false lashes aren’t major investments, so it’s a little easier to be daring.”
We’ve put together some looks for you from some of our favorite style icons. We hope these looks will inspire you to try something new for 2013!
Emma Watson was best known as Harry Potter’s sidekick and cohort, but in the 11+ years since her debut in Sorcerer’s Stone, Emma has transformed before our eyes into a beautiful and confident young woman. A darling of the red carpet, Emma is know for her classic and dramatic looks. We adore her poppy lips and dark natural lashes. To replicate Emma’s definitive and striking style, start by turning a spotlight on your eyes. Robin recommends using Revitalash Advanced nightly. Paint it along the top and bottom of your lash-line after removing all makeup. Robin says that her clients see a dramatic improvement in both the number of lashes as well as their length and strength within a few weeks. The formula conditions and helps to create a natural foundation ripe for emphasizing with the proper products. Robin likes to use Paula Dorf’s Perfect Lash as a primer before applying mascara because it coats and conditions every lash for a full, lush look. She likes to follow with Revitalash Mascara because its clump-free formula and specially designed brush together separate and define each lash, creating a lengthening look that makes lashes truly eye-popping. To replicate Emma’s lips use Paula Dorf’s Sheer Lip Tint in Holiday, which is a fun, sexy red. Robin says it is dark enough to make a big impact, but not so bright as to be intimidating. She says it’s a great red to wear during the day or if you are just starting to step out of your comfort zone a little.
To create a classic red lip and dramatic lashes like Michelle Trachetenberg, use a bold shade of red, like NARS Jungle Red. It’s a modern, semi-matte lipstick that provides full-bodied, velvety color in a highly pigmented and non-drying formula. Perfect for all-day wear (for the fashion forward office) or a big punch of color with a cocktail dress. Use Makeup Mandy’s LashX to strengthen and condition existing lashes while stimulating new growth in a safe and natural way. Available in five rich, high-pigment colors, it can be used to create either a natural or dramatic look. Apply once a day and see amazing results. To complete Michelle’s look add false lashes for some instant glamour. Robin likes Ardell Strip Lashes for their natural appearance and says that with just a little practice, they are simple to apply. Zoe Deschanel is known for her fun, quirky style. We like that her makeup is always daring, but at the same time relatable. She’s got that girl-next-door charisma we all seem naturally drawn to. Her stunning blue eyes seem to be perpetually framed by dark lashes, a striking counter-play. Try accentuating your top lips with a thick line Becca’s Automatic Eyeliner in Goa ; the intense pigmentation creates smudge-proof definition. Then lightly follow the natural line of your bottom lashes, using the built in smudger for fine blending. Use Paula Dorf’s lash color in Licorice to thicken and lengthen lashes on both the top and bottom. This beautiful flake-proof formula is also water resistant. Robin suggests creating Zoe’s plump natural lips by lining lips all the way to the outer most edges to create the illusion of a fuller smile. This can be especially effective on the top lip, just make sure to emphasize the natural indent and curve of your top lip. Robin likes NARS Velvet Matt Lip Pencil in Dolce Vita. The jumbo crayon design has all of the application qualities of a lipstick combined with the precision of a pencil. For long-lasting color and a rich-gloss look, fill in lips with the pencil and then apply NARS Larger Than Life Lip Gloss in Pirée. The outrageously lustrous color also has high-impact shine.
Emma Stone seems to make everyone’s best-dressed list, and we certainly agree and adore her fearless style. We especially love the bright lips and dramatic eyes that she tends to favor. To replicate Emma’s look we like Paula Dorf’s lip color cream in Legend. The bright red has an almost fuchsia hue and the lip “cream” is a fantastic cross between matte and gloss. We find the allure of this shade positively obsessive! To play up your eyes like Emma, line both the top and bottom lid with Paula Dorf’s eyeliner in Ebony. The soft and creamy formula of this pencil won’t drag as it lines and defines. To finish the look use Max2-Gold Volume Up ® Mascara which is designed to add volume, lift and separate each lash. It is also our favorite mascara for its intense concentration of black, adding a reflective sheen for a particularly dramatic impact.
