Tips + Tricks for Perfect Lipstick

Long-Lasting Wear

For a long-lasting matte lip, I love the iS Clinical Lip Duo Kit, which includes their Lip Polish to exfoliate and Youth Lip Elixir to hydrate, soften, and plump the lips.

For long-lasting lipstick, I always put my face primer over my lips and add a little concealer too to give it something to hold onto! Don’t use too much chapstick or lip balm underneath your lipstick, as that makes it too slippery and can break down your lipstick quickly.

Perfect application

It’s really a personal preference. I tend to use a lip brush only when applying darker shades so I get a more precise application, especially those gorgeous reds! Otherwise I’ll use my middle finger to dab the product on.

A Smooth Finish

Exfoliating your lips is really great to do! It eliminates dead skin from your lips which makes the lip color look smoother and helps it to stay on better. It’s like building a house. If you don’t have a good foundation, the house will fall in! My favorite lip exfoliator  is Sara Happ — lots of yummy flavors!

Keep it off your teeth

We have all had that awful moment when we realize there’s been lipstick on our teeth! So to avoid that, lightly close your lips around a (clean!) finger and pull it out, and you’ll see the excess on your finger.

— Robin

Avoid Transfer

To avoid lipstick from transferring, blot with a tissue between your lips to get off the excess and then dust your lips with a translucent powder. It works really well! If you’re a gloss girl and love the shine, try a lip primer or foundation under your gloss.

— Robin

The iS Clinical Liprotect SPF 35 is great for summer and beach days to protect your lips from UV rays, and helps to prevent product transfer.

Pick a color

Not sure what color works best for you? Usually a color that’s a few shades darker than your natural lip color looks great. If you have cooler toned skin, try a red or berry tone. If you’re warmer, try a pretty pink, coral or nude shade.

Lip colors can be different shades and intensities for different occasions. If you’re going out, try a fun shade like KW Red from Kjaer Weis. It’s daring and gorgeous!

One of my favorites is the Kjaer Weis Matte, Naturally Liquid Lipstick line. They last all day and have matching liners for a perfect lip line.
