MOXI® FAQs

What is MOXI™?

Through its use of a gentle, non-ablative, fractionated wavelength, MOXI corrects pigmentation issues and delivers dramatic tonal and textural improvements to your skin. The MOXI handpiece comfortably delivers non-ablative laser energy to revitalize your skin—all within the span of a typical lunch break.

MOXI was specifically designed as a preventative skincare treatment to correct the initial signs of sun damage and the appearance of aging skin without downtime.

MOXI creates micro-coagulation zones in the skin—the body naturally repairs these zones and replaces damaged cells with healthy, vibrant skin. Your provider can combine MOXI with other treatments for more powerful, visible results.

What will my appointment be like?

During an initial consultation, your provider will personalize a treatment plan to address your unique skin concerns.

A topical numbing cream will be applied to the skin before treatment. As the provider glides the MOXI laser across the skin, you may feel a warming sensation, which means the laser is doing its job.

How many treatments will I need?

This will depend on your treatment goals and the level of correction desired. Most patients receive 3 to 4 corrective MOXI treatments, then often elect for regular maintenance treatments. Talk to your practitioner about your goals, and they can advise you on the best treatment regimen.

How long does it take to see results?

Results will vary depending on your treatment goals and the plan you set with your provider. The day following your treatment, your skin may appear red, swelling may occur, and depending on your level of treatment, you may see the small micro dots called “mends” where the laser was applied. As the micro zones heal, they will darken and feel rough. Between days 3 and 5, the mends will slough off, revealing renewed skin beneath.

Can darker skin tones have a MOXI treatment?

Yes, MOXI works beautifully on darker skin tones and is appropriate for all skin types. If you have specific questions or concerns based on your skin tone, a MOXI provider will be able to answer your questions.

MOXI® Pre + Post Care

Before Your Treatment
  • Do not wear makeup on the day of treatment.
  • No sun-tanning or artificial tans 2-4 weeks prior to treatment.
    • Includes sun exposure, spray tans, tanning lotions, tanning beds, etc.
  • Avoid treatments that may irritate the skin for 1-2 weeks prior to treatment (waxing, peels, etc.)
  • Avoid any aesthetic procedures (including injectables) 1-2 weeks prior to treatment.
  • History of herpes or cold sores may require an anti-viral prescription prior to treatment.
  • Notify INTERLOCKS of any changes to your health history or medications since your last appointment.
After Your Treatment
  • Avoid sun exposure for 2-4 weeks and use a broad spectrum mineral sunscreen SPF 30+ (with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide) to protect your skin against both UVA and UVB rays.
  • Redness & warmth, mimicking a ‘sunburn sensation,’ is common and will resolve within 1-2 days.
  • Swelling is a normal side effect, most commonly under eyes, and will resolve in 1-2 days.
  • Mild bronzing of the skin and MENDs (microscopic epidermal necrotic debris) occurs within 1-2 days, leaving a ‘sandpaper’ appearance and texture to the treated areas, and resolved within 3-4 days.
    • Do not exfoliate – until the skin has naturally shed off the damaged skin cells.
    • MENDs is a part of the healing process and pushes out old tissue, as new tissue is generated.
  • Stay hydrated & keep your skin moisturized.
  • Avoid excessive heat – hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, physical exercise, etc. for 1-2 days or until skin has healed.
  • Use a gentle cleanser.
  • Avoid skin irritants 3-5 days post-treatment or until skin has healed.
    • Products containing retinoids, tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids, astringents, etc. should be avoided.
  • Notify INTERLOCKS of any concerns (blistering, excessive redness/swelling, etc.).
Potential Contraindications
  • Unprotected sun exposure, artificial/sunless tanners, and tanning beds used 2-4 weeks prior treatment.
  • Currently pregnant or breastfeeding. If I should become pregnant during this course of treatment, I will let my provider at INTERLOCKS know.
  • Keloid or hypertrophic scarring
  • Autoimmune or connective tissue disorder
  • Long term systemic steroid use
  • Recent cancer, chromotherapy, or radiation
  • Photosensitizing medications (antibiotics, hydroquinone, topical retinoids, etc.)
  • Accutane/isotretinoin use within the past 6 months
